MyStory Mondays-Fall 2020-Week 4: On Loss

Quote by UAlbany Alumna on Grief

Our UAlbany MyStory Bloggers share their lives with you to help you to stay focused on your goals, to remind and inform you about the many supports that we have on campus to help you succeed, and to let you know that, whatever you are going through, you are not alone.

This week we focus on loss, grief, and pressing forward in an entirely new normal. Class of 2017 and 2019, Kerry DeBruce, submitted an incredible series on this topic. Kerry is now working in the field she loves as an elementary school teacher. If you are experiencing any type of loss, we hope that you are encouraged and empowered by her stories.

Before we continue, we offer memory from John Vigiano, Sr., a retired New York City firefighter, who lost both of his sons, also fire firelighters, in the 9/11 attack on the United States. Did any of them attend UAlbany? No. Nevertheless, we believe in the power of stories and that the humanity in our stories connects us.

“Pulled Back to Move Forward.”

UAlbany Resources

Established in March 2015, Project MyStory is a community building effort to help students better acclimate to UAlbany and to work more effectively toward their goals. We began in UAlbany’s Academic Support Center (ASC), where you will see many of the posters featured above. We are now co-housed in ASC and in the Center for International Education and Global Strategy (CIEGS).
