In this post I want to talk about class. Many times we do not like class. There are times we do not want to go. Maybe we do not like our professors or the class is too boring, or too hard to understand. It is important to find class times that work for you.. If you are not a morning person, avoid the 8:15 am classes, but if you thrive better in the early hours, go for it. Also, make sure to go to every class unless it is impossible to do so. If you get in the habit of missing class, it will be easier to keep skipping and you will talk yourself into it much more easily. The same applies though to going to class. Have a good attendance record and it will become habit, and you will find yourself in every class. But there are two main reasons why class is so important.

  1. Class is where you will learn the most information

Reading the textbook and looking at the PowerPoint slides is never enough. I am unable to count how many times I have heard people say “I read the book” or “I went over the slides” and then  are surprised when they get a bad grade.  I know that different people have different ways of learning, but going to class is definitely something that is a benefit no matter what kind of learner you are. In every class, there are going to be questions on the exam based on the material covered in class. I know that sometimes you just cannot stand a certain class but going to that class is still necessary and it helps to find the little bit of good that you can get from it.

  1. Your classmates can be one of your best resources

Talk to the people around you in class. It is surprising how friendly and helpful some of them can be. If you are struggling in the class with the homework, or not understanding what the professor is saying, your classmates are probably having the same struggles. Just start off with a simple “Hi” or a “What do you think of this class?” And you will be surprised the friendship that can grow from that. You don’t have to tell them things you tell your best friend but you can connect over class, maybe exchange notes, even do homework and study together. Sometimes having that peer connection and discussion about the classwork can help you more than anything else.

I hope I have convinced you t how important going to class is to your academic success. As we are now past midterms and nearing the end of our semester, remember it is not too late to fix your attendance habits if needed and you can finish this semester strong. As always stay awesome, and keep keeping it real.
