If you’re like any other college student in the universe, by the middle of the semester you are feeling a bit burnt out– you’re tired of assignments, you’re tired of that 8:00am alarm so you can get to your 8:45, you’re tired of studying. It’s so easy to get lost in all the negatives you forget your reason for coming to college. To get us all back on track let’s hear it from the Lion himself…
“You gotta water your plants. Nobody can water them for you.”
DJ Khaled is always down for some self care. When it comes to taking care of yourself, no one else can do that for you, you have to do it for yourself. Be intentional in setting time away to do things that you want to do for fun, if that means getting a mani/pedi, catching up on your favorite show, or going for a run.
“I’m gonna go hard no matter what because I gotta feed my family and I gotta feed myself.”
Why did you come to college? Not because your parents said you have to, but why did you really come to college? Or why did you choose the specific major or career path you did? When it comes to hard times it is easy to forget what motivation we had initially, if you can dig deep and remember what drives you and hold on to that through the rest of the semester that would be motivation enough to propel you into the life you want to live.
“Always have Faith. Always have Hope”
When the going gets rough sometimes we can feel really lost, isolated, and alone; there are even sometimes when we want to give up. I know one thing that has helped me through college is making sure I stay strong in my spirituality and in my faith. There are various practices that help people feel spiritually filled if that be prayer, meditation, walking in nature, etc. By taking time to restore your faith it will help you have hope for the future.
“Key to more success is a clean heart and a clean face.”
When your inside is in check, your outside is in check. Your body is a like a car, if you put bad, watered down gas in the car, it might start acting funny and making weird noises; however if you put the super premium unleaded in, the car will run with no problems. It is important to give your body what it needs in order for it to function properly. Keep falling asleep in class? Try going to bed early and catching a few more Zzz’s. Frequently getting headaches? Look at how much water and food you’re putting into your body. Take time to listen to your body and give it what it needs!
“Baby, you smart! You loyal! You a genius!”
Words are powerful and what you say and think about yourself manifests itself. “Affirmations are sentences aimed to affect the conscious and the subconscious mind,” take some time to speak life into yourself. Take a note from DJ Khaled and speak positivity in your life until it is manifested.
“There will be roadblocks but we will overcome them.”
Bottom Line: Yes college is difficult, yes classes are stressful, but you, yes you, have the strength and power within yourself to overcome challenges. Look at your track record, you’ve overcome struggles in the past and you can do it again.
